About Joris Angenent.

Coming from the Dutch-Caribbean island of Aruba, Joris grew up in a house in front of a crossroad. He began archiving the whirlwind of emotional and social clashes around him. Dealing with island nationalism, europeanised caríb cultures and the foundational conflict that arises from assimilating blurred out truth. His more illustrative and expressive work tend to reflect heavily on experiences and personal memories, fond of running away into the woods or ocean and finding peace in order to reflect, away from the conflicts that occur between people.

the moral structures and social dynamics that influence societies, and smaller cultures that adapt to the current flow like on his home island are highly interesting to study, the human shapes in his paintings therefore are never directly personal, devoid almost entirely of persona, only a convoy for pure represented expressions.

His more recent work (along with his graduating thesis, for the Rietveld academy Amsterdam) have focused on questions that exist between the co-existence of humans and artificial intelligence, the parallel reality known as cyberspace that exists simultaneously alongside our physical existence, and an overall deeper questioning into the psychological evolution of humanity. In these works He seeks to further relate the symbiotic fusion of biological and mechanical to cultural advancement and assimilations that are occurring daily.
